BACLS-WHN Loughborough 2018 Registration
Thank you for your interest in BACLS-WHN, taking place at Loughborough University, UK, 10th-12th July 2018. You can register for the event on this page. Once you have completed registration on this page, please proceed to our BACLS What Happens Now 2018 Conference Payment Page to book your place at the conference.
Please note that to attend BACLS-WHN you will need to be a current member of BACLS. You can renew your membership on our Conference Payment Page at the same time as paying for the conference registration fee and booking accommodation at the University of Loughborough. If you are unsure if your membership is currently active, please email email@example.com to check.
The conference programme commences on Tuesday 10th July. Registration will be from 9.30am; the BACLS AGM begins at 10am and all are welcome. All panels commence at 12pm.
The programme will finish at approx. 6pm on Thursday 12th July.
Venue and Travel
Martin Hall, Loughborough University, Epinal Way, Loughborough, LE11 3TU
By Air – Nearest airport: East Midlands Airport. The yellow Skylink bus service from the airport to Leicester goes right through the centre of Loughborough. Buses depart every 20-30 minutes during the day from stand D outside the airport arrivals hall. Nearest long-haul flight airport: Birmingham International.
By Train – From London use Kings Cross St Pancras station; the journey takes approximately one and a half hours. There are regular direct trains from Nottingham, Derby, and Leicester. A taxi from Loughborough train station to the campus costs around £6.00 to £8.00. There is also a Sprint Bus; tickets for this are £1.80.
By Road – Loughborough University is two miles from junction 23 on the M1. The University is clearly signposted on all other main routes. Car parking on campus can be difficult so you may wish to leave your car at your hotel or the station and get public transport to campus.

BACLS are offering three travel and accommodation bursaries to attend WHN: one for PGRs, one for unwaged ECAs and one for waged academics. If you wish to apply please email a word doc with your paper title, abstract, and a brief paragraph expressing how presenting your work at BACLS will contribute to the development of your larger research project. Emails should be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org with the subject header BACLS CONFERENCE BURSARY. The closing deadline for bursaries is Friday 23rd March; you will be notified of the outcome by Wednesday 28th March.
There are several accommodation options
Accommodation on campus
Student Halls (available via conference registration) A number of rooms are available in student halls at a special rate of £35 per night. These rooms are available for booking until Thursday 5th April. The rate of £35 per night is for a single room, shared bathroom, and includes breakfast. If you wish to book a room in university accommodation you can do so whilst registering for the conference by following the link at the bottom of the page. These rooms are Non-Refundable, even if you are no longer able to attend the conference.
Burleigh Court (available via independent booking) Rooms are available to book in Burleigh Court, 4 star accommodation on campus. Please note that bookings for Burleigh Court can be made through the Burleigh Court website: https://www.burleigh-court.co.uk/
Accommodation in the town

Full Rate (salaried academics) – £120.00
Discounted Rate 1 (hourly paid lecturers) – £90.00
Discounted Rate 2 (postgraduates & unwaged) – £60.00
The conference fee for BACLS-WHN includes:
- lunch and refreshments on all three days (incl. two wine receptions, lots of tea and coffee)
- two conference dinners (on 10th and 11th July)
- a ticket to an exclusive new performance by artists Lisa Jeschke and Lucy Beynon, The Decline and Fall of the Home Office (on 10th July)
The fee does not include accommodation (details about accommodation options are given above), or travel costs (details about our travel bursaries, and directions to the venue are given above).
All scheduled events will take place in Martin Hall, which is fully accessible. For evening meals, all venues will be chosen with accessibility in mind. Please let the organisers know in advance if you need help with any travel arrangements between the main campus and where the evening events will take place in town. Loughborough is a big campus. If you are staying in campus accommodation, please let the organisers know if you need travel arrangements between the accommodation and Martin Hall. You can do this by giving details in the form below or emailing us at email@example.com.
Please note there is a section on the form for presenters to submit their final title, abstract and bios. Please fill in this section even if your abstract remains unchanged as this text will be used for the programme. If you are attending as a delegate and not presenting, please put NA in these sections of the form.
